Hey folks! Today was Patrick Br's birthday, and we (Patrick Br., Patrick Bl., Laura and Jessica) decided that we should go to the NC Zoo to celebrate. It's in Asheboro, NC, and is the "the nation’s largest walk-through natural-habitat zoo." It's located in the Uwharries. The gorillas were the best. Well, it was a good time had by all. Except that kid that cried a lot we happened to be near while in the Polar Bear exhibit. For some reason, he acted like he wasn't having a good time where there were awesome animals around that could eat him. If I were an animal that could eat him, and he didn't think I was cool, I would have stuck him in my belly. Respect!
But we left the zoo as late as we could, and headed out to get a COURTHOUSE! ROCK! So, we drove from the zoo to 220 Business into the town of Asheboro (not to be confused with Asheville). Jessica was driving, and she spotted the courthouses from the main drag--they were on a perpendicular street. We tried turning on the next street, but NOPE! The next street we tried to turn on was blocked off, and, well, it was annoying. The downtown was bustling for a Saturday afternoon, and there are a good number of murals...which I always like.
The Old Courthouse is part of the Second Empire Style, which is always cool, like its siblings in the other counties...I didn't get the top of the courthosue in the picture in this post, but just look at some of the ones below...it looks mighty similar!
If you look closely in the pic, Patrick Bl. has his shirt up. I try to get some originality in my shots. The cars driving by on the road I think thought we were nuts. Or...tourists?! Yeah, they probably thought we had missed the zoo or something, and wound up in their downtown. We are all UNC grads, and like Jesse Helms said when considering funding for the zoo initially, "Why don't we just put a fence around Chapel Hill and call it the NC Zoo?" To Mr. Helms: We escaped! I'm surprised the natives didn't call us in...it looked mighty Republican out there.
The new courthouse is right next door, and it fronts the street behind it. We said, what the...? It took us a while to walk around and find the front. But that's where the next picture comes in! Jessica did a smooth photo shot there. I'm sliding down the stair rail on my stomach. Isn't this courthouse eerily reminiscent of the Robeson County Courthouse? Maybe with a little Surry mixed in? I mean, look at how both display the seal above the door! That must be the architect's trademark! :0
Ok, anyway, afterwards, we went to a gas station to get stuff to drink, and I got a 1935 Indian Head Nickel as change. How cool is that?! (So I went to your room, and read your diaryyyy...sorry...Weezer reference). I think I could get about $2 for it on Ebay.
Speaking of references, Jurassic Park is a good movie, and all Patrick Br. and I could do all day was to make Jurassic Park references. Try it next time you go to the zoo...it really makes it more interesting, and if a T-Rex happened to appear and throw a goat at you (or fling poop), I think you would be more prepared to deal with the situation. Hmm...a T-Rex...this can't be good.

The glacial pace of your progress does not impress me. By the time you are finished, courthouses will be being built in the Forty-Seventh Empire sytle.
Are you still courthouse chasing?? Don't give up C Dub!!
